Do the UK’s museums represent the diversity of the nations? Are museums relevant to your lived experience? Is your local collection relevant to your community? Whose stories matter? And when do they matter?
The Survey is now closed. We will reach out to the winner of the £50 voucher in January 2025.
Culture& is conducting a new survey to find out who does and doesn’t visit museums – and why. With research showing that only 1% of museum audiences are Black,[1] it seems that institutions claiming to be relevant and inclusive are still ‘out of touch’ and ‘out of reach’ for many in Britain’s diverse society. How accessible are these “public” spaces?
We want to know if museums really matter to our global majority communities.
Who Cares About Museums? is a response to Culture&’s recent session for the Museums Association Conference: Who Cares in Museums? The session featured an immersive, multivocal soundscape and audience participation, exploring our lived experience of racialisation through our interaction with contested objects and doing decolonial work in museums.
