Who Cares? Understanding empathy and trauma in museums

Latest News

On Wednesday 8th November Culture& and Museum X led a reflective and discursive session exploring the emotional impacts of doing decolonial work with museum collections. Culture&’s Artistic Director and CEO Dr Errol Francis, and Culture&’s Development Director Angela Billings, were joined by Sandra Shakespeare the Founder-Director of Museum X, and Ama Josephine Budge a researcher and Pleasure Activist. The speakers facilitated a ‘brave space’ to share experiences, and collectively envision positive ways to move forward whilst promoting care and sustaining wellbeing.

The session featured an immersive, multivocal soundscape and audience participation, exploring our lived experience of racialisation through our interaction with contested objects and doing decolonial work in museums.
