Past Exhibition: Shape Shift Converse Rework
3 – 27 July 2025
Shape Shift Converse Rework was an exhibition at Hungate Medieval Art that told the stories of Hospital Rooms’ three-year initiative at Hellesdon Hospital in Norwich.
Dr Errol Francis, Artistic Director and CEO of Culture&, ran workshops with mental health service users for a commission in Hellesdon Hospital Norwich. All of the images were made in response to the art collection the Sainsbury Centre, University of East Anglia.
Hospital Rooms collaborated with Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) and the current Hellesdon Hospital community to bring museum-quality artworks and creative activities for people using these mental health services. Hospital Rooms worked with a cohort of 15 incredible artists to run a programme of workshops at the hospital and partner venues. As part of the co-production for this project, Hospital Rooms programmed 70 artist-led sessions across the inpatient wards at Hellesdon Hospital as well as partner venues at Norwich University of the Arts, Sainsbury Centre and Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery for community members who have used inpatient mental health services.
