Jean Karen Stevens
1962-2024
We are shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death of one of Culture&’s longest-serving Trustees, Jean, who passed away last week.
Jean embodied Culture&’s ethos of increasing opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds. She described herself as a ‘South London girl’ with a happy upbringing.’ Jean said she discovered her love of learning only after she had left school. So she studied accountancy, going on to qualify as a Chartered Accountant specialising in the Charity sector and rising to become director of finance and operations at a housing charity.
So, coming late to the professional world, Jean had a very keen commitment to Culture&’s mission to open up opportunities to other disadvantaged people so that they can realise their own potential.
In addition to her professional roles, Jean was a volunteer at the homeless charity Croydon Nightwatch.
Our hearts go out to Jean’s partner and family at this difficult time, and we are sorry for their loss. Jean will be greatly missed but her contribution to Culture& will not be forgotten.
