OPEN CALL: Oral Histories in North Staffordshire

Latest News

Share your story about your journey to North Staffordshire

We are looking for people to share their story of how they or their family came to live in North Staffordshire and become part of this growing archive.

If you are interested, please complete the Expression of Interest form. Submit by 5 June 2026.

We are offering an £85 fee for one hour of your time. Travel expenses will also be covered.

You might speak about a journey across continents, countries, or regions or a more recent move.  These stories will become part of the Unhomely at the Museum of the Home and the Brampton Museum. The Unhomely will bring these stories into public space – creating a conversation across cities about what it means to feel at home.

Who can apply?

We are looking for people who have a story of making North Staffordshire their home. We are especially keen to hear from those dispersed from their original homeland, or migrant, asylum, or refugee communities, but all are welcome.

What will taking part involve?

The Unhomely invites you to take part in conversations, creative workshops, or recorded storytelling sessions to help shape the project’s programme. Activities will take place from June and over the summer. No experience is needed, and you can share and participate in as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. During our conversation, we will ask you some questions about your understanding and perceptions of home.

We are offering an £85 fee for one hour of your time. Travel expenses will also be covered.

About Culture&

Culture& works to challenge and reshape cultural spaces by creating opportunities for voices and stories that have not always been represented in museums and heritage. Through this project, we are working to build a living archive of experiences from across the region – ensuring that the histories, memories, and perspectives of local communities are seen, heard, and valued.

The Unhomely exhibition

Culture& presents The Unhomely, a new public programme and exhibition series taking place in Stoke-on-Trent and London. Working with the Brampton Museum and Museum of the Home, these dual locations will create a conversation across cities, inviting audiences to reflect on the tensions of belonging and the persistence of memory, longing, and identity. The Unhomely explores experience of migration, cultural displacement, and unbelonging. Through stories, objects, and creative commissions, the programme asks: what does it mean to feel at home, and what happens when home becomes unhomely?
